Leading funeral ceremonies, memorials and living wakes since 2022 has allowed me to bring my love of deep listening and connected storytelling into spaces where emotions can be visible and full. I have been involved in public speaking, performance, teaching workshops and vocal training since the early 2000s, and I enjoy and feel comfortable being a funeral celebrant, whether the funeral is small, large or anywhere in between.
It’s never the size of the funeral that makes it significant, it’s the personalised storytelling that allows folks to land in their grief, and the space that is created to allow whatever feelings need to arise.
When meeting with families, I listen deeply and carefully to your stories of your person, and ask the questions that allow me to deliver a ceremony that authentically represents their life and personality. I want to make sure that the person who has died is the absolute focal point of their funeral or memorial, and the main storytelling is delivered by those who knew them best, as it should be.
Sometimes I do already know the person who has died, and I love being able to show up for community in this way. When I am the celebrant for someone who has been a doula client of mine, I have often already discussed ceremony with the person who has died, so the process can be more seamless.
